Before he knows it, he's pulled right into the dance. And it feels almost joking with the kind of dance move Tidus is doing here. There's a part of Inigo's heart that still worries. What if he sucks at dancing on this music? What if he looks so dumb that Tidus will take back any and all compliments he's given him?
But then he remembers-- ]
.. right. Don't think too much. Just move.
[ It's hard to say whether he's saying it to himself or to Tidus. Especially since he tugs on one of Tidus's arms, pulling the other guy closer and into a proper dance. Not a formal one, since the music sure doesn't suit it, but a dance all the same. Despite being unfamiliar with the music, Inigo does manage to find the rhythm and mood, moving along to it.
And there's an almost odd kind of guidance in his steps on top of it. He's leaving enough room for Tidus to do what he wants, but if he ever doesn't know what to do with his feet or arms, it's like Inigo steps or moves in such a way that provides easy and obvious ways for Tidus to move in tandem. ]
But it was a playful messing - fun, goofy, free to turn into an actual dance as Inigo does, though it catches Tidus off-guard (but should it have? just, Inigo's got better moves here, alright!)! There's a rise in the beat though where Tidus feels confident to swing an arm around Inigo's waist, shift himself behind him, keep a hold of him like he might have Yuna in this situation. Swaying his hips, convincing Inigo to keep that animated follow to the beat with him as Tidus laughs.
It's ok to dance with your bro's back to your chest, right??
But he does remember moves like these, goofing off with Yuna. Taking Inigo's hand above their heads as he comes back to face him, his hips never taking pause when the beat doesn't.
It's just fun. Fun with a friend, goofy, thoughtless, carefree. Something they both need at times.
[ It's funny. Inigo doesn't even fluster, like he usually does in these situations. Like he would have done for sure if they weren't dancing of all things.
But it's always been like this. Inigo's head is dumb. It overthinks everything at all times, it makes every single emotion he displays be incredibly dumb and over the top, it's way too hard on himself in every way possible. But it's never been like that while dancing. Maybe it's since it reminds Inigo of a better time, but it's like nothing can pull him out of his good mood once he starts.
Instead he just smiles, even laughs, going right along with the move. Falling in line like it's nothing. Like it's just them having fun. Like they didn't discuss some really depressing things within the same hour.
It's easier to just not think. To only feel.
When they're facing each other again, it's this time Inigo who moves their hands - or mostly his own as he sneaks an arm around Tidus this time. His free hand keeps a hold of Tidus's hand, tilting him backwards to dip him. He even playfully leans in a bit with his own face - maybe even a tad too close, but Inigo doesn't seem worried about it right now -, smiling warmly, before moving both of them upright again. ]
[ It's strange, but barely, really. Much more fun, alive -- a change of pace from where they usually are, what they normally get up to. And not only that, but getting to witness a side of Inigo kept to himself. But look at him bloom, taking Tidus by the waist and lowering him; startling him, but Tidus gripping onto Inigo. 'Cause if he's about to be dropped here, he's taking his pal with him!
But he wouldn't mind if he did send him to the floor; just as he'd trust Inigo to do it in the first place. Because it'll always be a joke for the both of them than a malicious act on the other, a dumb antic than anything sincere. He doesn't even mind as Inigo's face dips close, lingering as this pose does before everything is righted and set straight. but maybe not too straight ]
Oh yeah? It's my turn now to do that, isn't it? [ Does it follow the music, the beat? Who cares- Tidus reaches for Inigo's waist playfully, wrapping around his arm and bringing their bodies in close. Their joined hands held up, like they're doing a proper dance; except there's no footwork coming from Tidus, his moves consisting of waving their hands back and forth and never stopping that silly little sway of his hips.
But he brings his head in daringly, just like Inigo did, a grin wide and showing teeth- ]
[ He laughs. It's a soft sound, considering the current mood, but it's so incredibly warm - reflected in his eyes as he looks right back at Tidus. ]
Always.
[ Which is an answer in this context, sure, but also just in general. Because even outside of this silly hypothetical dancing death scenario Inigo would trust Tidus with his life. Without hesitation. He knows Tidus would never let serious harm befall him if he could help it, just like how Inigo wouldn't hesitate to face anything to keep his friend safe.
Even if that may potentially end with him on the ground here. But who cares. Inigo finds it hard to mind the thought of very much anything right now, with the two of them this close, this happy for once. Away from all the thoughts that threaten to tear their hearts into pieces. ]
[ With that answer, definitive as it is, Tidus dips Inigo as best as he can figure to. Leaning forward while slipping the arm around Inigo's back to small of it, guiding him down, all for dramatics. The feisty look held only for seconds before it softens incredibly at Tidus's laugh, his giggles at how dumb and fun this whole thing is.
They're a stupid pair of guys. But at least they're a stupid pair of guys together, hand in hand.
Tidus holds the pose, may swing Inigo a little -- slowly, teasingly, with a contemplative "hmmmm?" on what he might do -- but otherwise, lifts him back upright with him. ]
[ Consider him pleasantly surprised that he didn't end up on the floor.
And sure, it may not be the absolute perfect dip, but something about Tidus's constant shifts make it so much better. Him trying to be teasing, feisty, but breaking out into laughter because it's just too much. It's incredibly charming, and Inigo honestly thinks Tidus could get by trying out any dance with just that spark of charm alone.
When Inigo is firmly back with both of his feet on the ground, he moves his arms to wrap them around Tidus's upper back, leaning in to press his face against Tidus's shoulder. It sure doesn't seem like part of the dance - it's just a hug - and despite the fact that the music is still going in the background, Inigo just remains like that for a few moments, not even saying anything. Like he's trying to linger in this mood for a little while more, trying to indulge in it.
Because he did mean what he said earlier. That life is often hard. That it has been hard for a long time. That, even now, there are still times where he wishes he could just give up altogether.
But in this moment, he's glad he didn't. If not just so he could have made it to this. So he can have experienced this very moment. ]
Thanks, Tidus. [ It's mumbled against his shoulder, since Inigo doesn't bother to pull back just yet. ] I'm happy to be here with you right now.
[ He thinks they might continue their small shuffle in place when Inigo leans into him (this is a kind of dance move too, isn't it?). But when Tidus doesn't feel him move, then Tidus doesn't either; leaning his head against the side of Inigo's, allowing him this moment. Still smiling generously, unable to pull it away from his mouth. Pleased and content. ]
Me too. [ Glad that he's here, with Inigo--despite all the misery that came with their journeys. Voice lowering, gentler: ] There's always sunshine after rain.
[ And he waits a pause until- ] That's a good one, right? [ Nudging Inigo lightly with the side of his head.
The song's already come to an end, another starting to play, but Tidus doesn't care. Doesn't move, but waiting on Inigo to make that decision. When he's ready to. ]
[ At first Inigo doesn't laugh, still just lingering in the hug, in the warmth of the moment. The tingle in his fingertips and in his toes that comes from having danced without caring about anything else for a few moments.
But then Tidus just has to lay his joke on extra thick, and that does draw a slight chuckle from him. ]
It's a little lame. [ But it's said so lightly, like there's hardly any weight to those words. Like they are hardly even spoken. ] But I like it that way.
[ He sighs, then sucks in a breath, lingering in the embrace for another moment before he finally pulls back. The music is still playing, but really, it's more like background music at this point. ]
I guess.. I'll keep trying my best to do what makes me happy. Like dancing. And being near you.
Hey. [ It's a mock offence to Inigo's honesty, small as his own voice. His arms feeling empty the moment that Inigo steps out of them.
Tidus wishes he doesn't, for a brief second. Just so he can remember some more what that's like. To have someone-- no. Just... to be close.
But just like the moment, it goes. ]
Good. We can't tell Taiki to treat himself better if we don't do it too. We have to set an example! [ And is this going too far for the already flustered-over-this Inigo? But, with a grin and his usual cheek: ] Taiki can draw you dancing.
[ That is a positive, Inigo. Just think! A dancing practice subject! ]
Inigo is so not ready for the Horrifying Ordeal Of Being Known. He would have been perfectly fine keeping this dancing hobby to himself, really. Or.. well, maybe sharing it with a few really, really close friends isn't as bad, he's figured now. He will definitely be revisiting the memory of dancing like that with Tidus later on, after all. Maybe in his dreams.
Hopefully in his dreams. It'd be a nice break from all the nightmares he's had before. Just a reminder of that nice, warm moment, where everything felt okay for once.
But for now he's in the present, and still very much faced with the idea of Taiki drawing him. Terrifying. His face is starting to get so red. ]
You're kidding, right?
[ Right? Come on, Tidus. That's your kidding grin, isn't it. ]
[ Tidus is doing his best just to smile and like he already was. Is he teasing?? Yes Tidus is always teasing but is this double the teasing?? You decide, Inigo. ]
Remember to hold a pose when he asks.
[ h-his grin isn't widening, that's your imagination ]

post holding is exactly what i do all day at work though
[ Or if he isn't, then Inigo still doesn't want to hear about this, okay. This idea is mortifying in a way that's unlike anything else he's ever had to deal with. Inigo's face is still red - so really, Tidus is still getting that reaction he was angling for - but he's latching onto the sides of Tidus's arms, shaking him back and forth like a discontent toddler. ]
Come on, Tidus! You can't just joke about this! It's a big, scary deal for me, alright! [ BE NICER TO THE SENSITIVE BABY. ]
[ He's definitely kidding, when the second he's called out, Tidus snorts out a laugh. A laugh that only grows as he's getting shaken. Yes, whine for him moooore. ]
It'll be fine! I know it will! C'mon, you know I'm just trying to lighten you up! [ is he ]
[ IS HE. That is pretty much the question Inigo is asking himself here too!
But it is true that Tidus has done a lot of nice things today, even though they sure went through an emotional rollercoaster. So he at least stops shaking the other guy, letting go of his arms.
But the whining? The whining never stops. ]
I just don't want to look ridiculous! [ And he's sure he would on a painting of him dancing. Not because Taiki would draw it ridiculously, but because it's just.. ridiculous. In general. ]
We can't all be famous and used to these kinds of things.
[ Mister blitzball star. ]
Not to mention that I don't even have a dancing outfit here.
Well, then you make use of what you have 'til you do! [ But sure, let Tidus remember that for later. ] What's a dancing outfit anyway, other than making sure you look good and move good in whatever you're wearing?
[ Yeah?? Yeah! ]
And I can help you get used to the fame. Inigo, will you sign my chest?
[ Tidus's hands move as if he's about to lift up his shirt-- he won't though. (But you can get a peek of belly, if you want) ]
[ Unbelievable. Tidus only just earned his arms privilege back, and this is what he chooses to do with it? Inigo immediately latches onto Tidus's hands, just to prevent him from lifting that shirt. Please, be kind on his gay little heart that can't just handle seeing male chisled chests out of nowhere. ]
I--I'm fine! Not being famous, I mean! [ At least the volume of his voice finally lowers now after that initial freak out, slowly releasing Tidus's hands again.
He's trusting you here, bro. ]
I don't even want to be famous, I.. I just want to make people happy with my dancing. That'd be enough for me.
[ Tidus doesn't stop the stray chuckle here and then, especially when Inigo gets this flustered. Putting his hands back down, if not straight away. ]
It wouldn't be bad working on your fear 'bout being seen though. But okay, I get it, a few people at a time, right? [ He gives Inigo a knock on the shoulder. ]
But you know...I was shy too, when I got popular. It was a lot, having people come up to me and talking to me. It's got to be the same, I figure. I don't have to think about it in a game, since I'm not the only guy up there. But in public? I get it. It's a lot!
[ Inigo lets out a breath, visibly trying to calm down a bit from his embarrassment. The fact that Tidus doesn't leave him with the fear of sudden getting flashes with his abs helps, really.
But what helps even more is the fact that he actually wants to be able to be - at least mostly - serious for this topic of discussion. ]
.. you were shy? [ There's some doubt in his voice. Not that he thinks Tidus is lying, but.. it more just sounds hard for Inigo to even imagine. It makes him frown slightly. ] But you look so confident all the time. And you seem to love attention. I can't imagine you ever having been anything else.
A lot of people love attention. You like it too, right? With friends. Sure, I wanted to have people watching and thinking how cool I was when I was younger--
[ he's idly walking as he speaks now, putting his hands on his hips and raising his chin at that last part, ]
--and I still wanted that, the older I got. But I wasn't used to it! I didn't know what to do! But in the moment of the game, I didn't think about any of it. But, the crowds are just as important as a game... You wanna share that moment with them and give the best performance you can, don't you? [ He turns to Inigo, a hand to his own chest. ]
You want to show the world your best. What it means to do what you do. In that moment, it's easy to get lost in the game! But then, when it's over... you're just you. And, [ he tips his head, a little sheepishly, ]
You don't wanna disappointment them with who that is. It's easy to get embarrassed.
[ He 'hmms' along with parts of the explanation, though there are also some where he remains quiet. Mostly since.. well, he doesn't really know. He's never considered crowds watching him. Especially when it comes to performing. ]
Why would they be disappointed though?
[ So instead he focuses on what he can understand, can think about. After all, he met Tidus while having no idea the other was famous back home. And sure, their first interactions were very different from now, and he's whined at the other plenty, but.. he doesn't think he ever had a full on negative impression of Tidus. ]
You're great. I can't imagine you disappointing anyone with just being you. I'm sure all of your fans were happy to meet you.
[ That gets a laugh out of Tidus, light but understanding. Something a friend would say, for sure. ]
What? You don't worry about first impressions? Sure, I say you shouldn't care about what people think, but these people want to see you. They wanna know you!
I'd tell you you shouldn't be nervous 'bout being seen, but that doesn't stop you. Right?
[ He can't help but agree with that. It's just the truth, after all. There's nothing anyone could tell Inigo that would actually make him stop being nervous about the idea of people seeing him dancing - not his own mother could stop him from thinking that, after all.
So it makes it all a little more understandable. Even someone like Tidus has things he can't help but be worried about, huh.
There's a pause where that thought is being processed in Inigo's head, but what instead comes out of his mouth is: ]
I can't believe I just complimented you and you completely ignored it! [ Not everyone gets flustered for 3 hours over the simplest of compliments the way you do, Inigo. ]
Because that wasn't the point! I think you're a great guy who has nothing to worry about, but like I said, huh?
[ But, fooolding his arms. ]
Maybe you don't appreciate my compliments well enough! How about that? Now I see it. When's the last time you got gooey about something nice I had to say about you?
[ like just a minute ago but that's not the point ]
[ Inigo looks like he's already about to reply to that first part. But then instead Tidus speaks on, and what he's saying is landing like a bomb. Inigo's jaw drops slightly. ]
Didn't I do so just now?! [ He's pretty sure he got all soft for a bit there, okay! Doesn't he get soft at Tidus all the time?! ] You're usually the one who tells me to not get all sappy on you! I would gladly be gooey all the time with you, you know!
[ DON'T EVEN DOUBT THAT FOR A MINUTE. He is ready. ]

You're great. I can't imagine you disappointing anyone with just being you. I'm sure all of your fans were happy to meet you.

[ But, fooolding his arms. ]
Maybe you don't appreciate my compliments well enough! How about that? Now I see it. When's the last time you got gooey about something nice I had to say about you?
[ like just a minute ago but that's not the point ]

Didn't I do so just now?! [ He's pretty sure he got all soft for a bit there, okay! Doesn't he get soft at Tidus all the time?! ] You're usually the one who tells me to not get all sappy on you! I would gladly be gooey all the time with you, you know!
[ DON'T EVEN DOUBT THAT FOR A MINUTE. He is ready. ]
