Oh! [ Oh?? ] Sure -- later! I'll see you later too? For food? Or something?
[ Whatever, you know? Whatever either of them have going on, but hey, Inigo doesn't seem as bad as he did earlier. So Tidus feels fine letting him go, that maybe he just has something he needs to get to. Hey, he might have plans wit Taiki, and it's better to see the guy out and about on a platform day than wanting to hang out in their cabin.
But this is Inigo's chance to escape and be free, with one bro watching him curiously, but not scrutinising him. This is the face of an oblivious puppy bro, who thinks everything is good and fine. ]
Inigo thought this moment would never come. And while he's not sure he's being fully convincing here, he at least manages to hide the anxiety enough for Tidus to not give him the weirdest goodbye.
He'll take it. ]
Yeah, of course!
[ Now he just has to survive until dinner without dying.
Haha.
No biggie.
Inigo gives Tidus a last smile before turning to walk out of the carriage - without even thinking of where he's heading yet, really. Maybe he's just going to find some room to breathe and try to calm down first. ]
Tidus isn't sure he made Inigo feel majorly better, but he figures the thoughts about sharing a room - or, rather, overthinking about what Tidus's answer will or won't be - won't return immediately to the guy. A pal can hope anyway, and whichever way he's going, Tidus will give him some peace and return to fiddling with the device; wanting to remember how to use it himself, and to find the best way to set it up for when he gives it over to Roland.
It's not what keeps him busy until dinner - that would be spending way too much time in the kitchen, hanging out in the games carriage, and then ending up in the training gym for a couple of hours. But, when the call comes over the speakers for dinner, Tidus makes his way over soon after, a shower delaying him from immediately getting there.
But, he's given the proposition some thought. His eyes scan the dining car when he first enters, wondering if he'll see Inigo and if he's grabbed him a plate, before knowing if he'll have to go and get his own food.
brooooo did you get him food even if he might be late broooo ]
Because even though Inigo has been antsy all day now, he knows that's not Tidus's fault at all. In fact, no matter what Tidus's answer will end up being to the whole thing, nothing about it is the other's fault. Inigo knows that his anxiety is just born from his own dumb insecurities, if not just from how hard he constantly is on himself.
So there's no way he's going to punish Tidus for how dumb Inigo's own brain is. Hence why Tidus will find him sitting there at the long dining table with two portions of food.
And no, it's not all just for Inigo himself. Please, he's not the food fiend here. ]
Took you long enough. [ He says once Tidus has gotten close enough to be within earshot, shooting a small smile at him.
Nervous? Who's nervous? Haha, bro, it's cool, he's as cool as a cucumber. ]
Tidus's expression brightens when he spots Inigo and the seat that's been saved for him, along with the food. He strides on over without any suspicions that it's actually being saved for Roland -- get out of here own man, this isn't your thread!! -- and gets on in, picking up his cutlery. ]
You wanted to sit next to me stinking? [ Please!! He did this as a favour for all. ] Sometimes I worry I'm losing muscle... I'm not fighting as often as I did back in Spira, and I don't have the same exercise routine as back in Zanarkand!
What do you think? [ He's already stuffed some tuna steak into his mouth, but he doesn't need both arms, extending the one on Inigo's side, turning it, wearing a short-sleeved shirt. ] Do I look like I'm getting soft?
[ Fellas, is it gay to ask your bestie if you're getting soft?
Perhaps it is, just a little, because Inigo definitely chokes on his food the moment Tidus says that. Please, bro, don't say that like you're actually aware of the fact that he's constantly staring at your muscles?! This is dinner time, not call out time!
Inigo pats himself on the chest a few times, managing to get the bite of food down, before wheezing out a: ] Sorry, swallowed it wrong.
[ Because that's clearly all that was. Not a moment of gay panic, nope siree.
He coughs once or twice, making sure his throat is back to normal before he speaks again. ]
But no, you look fine! Seriously, where would you get any other idea? Just compare your arm with mine. [ It's not like Inigo doesn't have muscle - especially in his arms, considering all the swordfighting - but he's not exactly the type to do situps either. ]
Your arms are good! [ Please, bro, are you being down on yourself? Tidus better not hear a bro being down on himself, giving his upper arm a squeeze. ] You've got the right stuff for swordfighting! And for dance, too. You look great!
[ But there's a pause, followed by a sigh, and Tidus pats at his belly. ] I don't wanna end up getting chubby 'cause I'm stuck on this train, you know? I've been eating a lot more cake since being here... ugh.
[ Even though he's been watching it...!! ]
Tell me- [ he starts, speaking a note lower; awkward and stilted, taking a moment to get out: ] I...feel okay, when you-- in bed?
[ This situation is getting rapidly more ridiculous. Because Inigo definitely didn't mean to fish for a compliment there, he was just trying to say that of course there's a difference between Tidus who tries to build muscle on purpose and Inigo who doesn't!
But before he can even say anything to that, there's Tidus complaining about getting chubby, of all things, and then him phrasing that question in that way..
Sure, Inigo knows what he means, rather than what it might sound like to others, but he still can't help but feel a little incredulous at Tidus trying to avoid using the word 'cuddle' of all things. ]
What, do I need to tell you that you have a hot body again?
Pah! [ PAH, THAT'S WHAT HE SAYS. He turns away from Inigo and shoves some tuna steak into his mouth, a sulky unimpressed look wearing itself onto his face. He might feel a little nice about Inigo just calling him hot like that, but...! ]
I'm being serious. [ Serious, Inigo! ] Ugh, it doesn't matter. I used to have to worry about it all the time...life's so different now.
[ How can he make Inigo understand his sports lifestyle that even took over how he ate and exercised? Truthfully, he knows he's been lax about it, hasn't really worried himself that much about it either... but sometimes. Sometimes he can't help but wonder!!
But, with barely his food swallowed: ] You better not grab at anything when we're sharing a bed.
[ HE IS SERIOUS TOO, BRO. Despite the tone! He has never said that and not meant it, it's just that he's trying to no-homo-fy it by putting that tone over it!
But just as Inigo wants to protest about Tidus having a problem with his answer, the other just keeps talking on between bites. Or hardly between bites. Inigo swears he still heard a bit of a food mumble at the beginning of that last sentence, and--
..
Wait. ]
You.. [ Inigo starts, unsure of how to deal with this. If this was Tidus agreeing about the room, he probably wouldn't be this casual about it, right? It's got to be Inigo just imagining things. Because he's dumb and desperate. So.. ] You mean.. If we ever have to on a mission..?
[ H-Haha, that's what you mean, right, bro. It's okay, Inigo won't get his hopes up. ]
[ Inigo doesn't really think that, does he? No, of course not; though it takes Tidus a second to realise it, that Inigo would probably think he wouldn't want to, after he didn't give him an answer earlier. After how dumb and stupid he had been about it.
But, he's had time to think about it. Time to realise -- what was the problem? When there wasn't really any problem, and he didn't care what people thought was going on between them. They were pals, they were comfortable with each other. ... and, well, sometimes things would be going on....
It would be just the two of them. And after S'reee had gone, the room felt less his than it ever did. This could be a nice change. No more revolving cabinmates. ]
You heard me. [ He looks at Inigo, maybe more bold than he should be, when- ] You still want to, don't you? As long as there's any rooms left. But you and me, sharing a double room?
[ Why not? is the mood he's going for. Because, after all - why not? ]
[ The words slip out of his mouth without even considering them. Because he doesn't want Tidus to think, even for a moment, that Inigo is the one going back on it now. He's not going to let this be another moment like the one during the tail end of the last mission.
He has to make sure Tidus knows. Instantly.
Even though his brain is still very much processing the information. Tidus doesn't mind. He thought about it, and he doesn't mind. Inigo has been preparing himself so much for the worst possible scenario that he hadn't even considered this one - the one where Tidus actually gives in.
It leaves him unsure of what to do other than to start for a moment after the initial two words. He awkwardly pushes some food around on his plate. ]
I mean, I-- it seems to me like one of the most fun things on the train so far.
Most fun? [ Okay, he said 'one of', but- ] C'mon - that's gotta be the cinema car. And the music carriage?
[ Oh, he likes them getting the music carriage. If just so he can have music on his SCA than actually hanging around in there (but, it does have certain perks for Inigo that Tidus can appreciate for his friend). ]
But I'm hoping it'll feel less - cramped, you know? I really hate the beds we have now. [ There's a tired sigh. ] Even without you coming down sometimes, there's barely any room. But having a double, and not watching other people come and go all the time?
[ Or having to care about them coming in? ]
I'm down. As long as there's still any rooms spare.
[ The tips of Inigo's ears are starting to grow warmer and warmer. At least it seems that Tidus caught on to the same advantages that Inigo explained to him earlier today - but he knows Tidus could have figured those out by himself too. It's not like he's totally dumb. ]
Hmm, I thought the same thing. We can look once we're done eating. [ There are quite a few couples on the train, right? Maybe they're all taken.. then again, knowing the train, it may just add more of those double rooms. Sleeping cabins seem to be just about the only thing it's actually generous with. ] But we should have some more room there, if it doesn't have bunks on all sides. And if those rooms still end up being small, I'll just give away my wyvern plush to one of the kids.
[ Look!! He can compromise too, b-bro!
Not that he wants to part with his only reminder of Gerome, but.. you know. He's a big boy. He could put himself over it.. without crying.. maybe.. ]
[ Tidus would question the sleeping cabins being generous, HE HATES THEM THE BEDS SUUUCK- ]
Whoa, threatening getting rid of the big girl? [ It's a girl, right.
Either way, Inigo gets a nudge on the arm from an elbow. ] Let's check things out before we make any decisions we can't take back. We can go straight there after dinner. I think we both need to agree to move in before we can take a look.
[ Which is dumb, but that's the train for you. ]
You see they have more fancy rooms too? Those rooms with the couches and TVs would be great for a meeting place. Way too small for Purple's tomorrow, though.
[ But Tidus wouldn't mind hanging out in one someday. It looks cosy. ]
[ Because it's exactly as Tidus is saying. Inigo only had a cursory glance, but it did seem like that space would be much too small to have such a large group in..
And what meetings do they really have, other than team meetings? ]
Do you want to have a fancy birthday party? [ It's a slight attempt at a joke, considering Inigo is still a bit flustered yet also relieved by Tidus's decision..
Especially since it's not like any of them can know when their birthday is, out here in the void. ]
[ Inigo, you just gave Tidus a wonderful idea, a wide smile pushing into his cheeks and his eyes gleaning when he looks at the other guy, like it's brilliant. And yes, like Inigo was talking about himself, too. That was absolutely what Tidus heard. ]
We can! Or just a big hangout with some friends! Somewhere private to chill out, have some food! Maybe we can even buy somethin' cool to try out!
[ He rolls his eyes slightly. (Very slightly. Inigo hasn't fully recovered yet from how today has been Such A Day.) ]
Oh, of course, because my birthday is clearly in the middle of the month Llama. [ What's up with the calendar system on this train. What's so wrong with using normal people months so people know when their birthday is? Sure, with how long he's been on the train, he figures his birthday has probably passed at.. some point.. but it's so hard to tell out here.
So he shakes his head, trying to shake off the thought, instead trying to think about something more productive. ]
I guess we could invite Dennis and Adam for hanging out in a room like that though. You know, to get to know them a little outside of practical talk too. Or we can tuck Taiki into the huge bed he deserves.
[ Before he can remark even a thing about Dennis or Adam, or what Inigo assumes either guy may enjoy when it comes to relaxing and hanging out, there's the final remark.
It causes Inigo to nearly choke on the bite of food he's got in his mouth. He only manages to save himself through quickly swallowing and then drinking some water right after before he can speak up again. ]
Now you want to celebrate Taiki's birthday?
[ ...
When is Taiki's birthday? ]
Ugh, I hate that the months here are so odd. Taiki deserves a fun birthday party.
Don't you both? [ Deserve a fun birthday party? Actually... ] When's the last time either of you had a birthday party? Or got to care about your birthday?
[ He waves his fork in Inigo's direction. ] I was just saying about a vegan birthday cake 'cause Taiki wouldn't be able to eat any other kind of cake [ and would Inigo really want Taiki to not eat cake on his birthday?? ], but maybe we should do a big day for the both of you. What do you think?
[ Oh! ]
We could ask for a Ylisse dinner! I wonder if we could ask for a veggie and non-veggie option...
[ Sure, Tidus technically already said it - it's since neither of them got to celebrate their birthday properly in a long time. But Inigo doesn't think that's a good reason, okay. It's not like he ever missed celebrating his birthday once the world went to hell in a handbasket, hence why he looks so surprised now at him being included here. ]
I haven't had mine since I was really young, but that's exactly why I don't mind not having them. I'm not sure I'd even know what to do at a birthday party at this point. [ Considering how long there just haven't been any in Ylisse at this point. ]
Taiki should have one just for him! That way it's more special, right? And that way we can arrange everything to be perfect for him.
[ Instead of having to half mix it up with Inigo things. ]
[ Of course he's getting all this. Of course. Half of the train is like this, and man, would he be like this if someone decided he should have a cool day for himself? But Tidus is unfazed by Inigo's protests, a small pah all he gives any of that before he's digging in his fork into his food. ]
You just don't wanna be the centre of attention. [ Well, and the reason Inigo gave, but- ] Birthdays are overrated. You don't have to act any way! You deserve a special day, so does Taiki, so you should both have it! Good food, good friends, some presents just for you?
I know this gets rid of the surprise factor, but I guess we could keep it as a surprise from Taiki... say that I'm throwing you a surprise day, and ta-da-- surprise day for two!
[ WOW. What a call out. What a terrifingly accurate callout. But that doesn't mean Inigo can't protest it all the same! ]
Maybe I just want Taiki to have something nice without having to share it with me!
[ That reason is also very true, so it's the easiest protest to go for - it's one he doesn't have to lie for, especially since he'd definitely have to lie if he'd claim that he was fine about being in the spotlight. ]
Is that so odd? [ Surely Tidus gets the totally overprotective feeling they have over Taiki. ]
I don't think it's odd you're protesting. [ For the exact reason he called out, and his voice does dip into something softer, glancing at Inigo, though maybe he won't want to look at him right now. ] But I know Taiki would love to see you get some attention too.
The guy loves to share. And it won't be any less special if it's about you too.
[ Even if maybe, Inigo thinks it might be. Because his brain gets dumb like that. ]

[ Whatever, you know? Whatever either of them have going on, but hey, Inigo doesn't seem as bad as he did earlier. I know this gets rid of the surprise factor, but I guess we could keep it as a surprise from Taiki... say that I'm throwing you a surprise day, and ta-da-- surprise day for two!

The guy loves to share. And it won't be any less special if it's about you too.
[ Even if maybe, Inigo thinks it might be. Because his brain gets dumb like that. ]
